Why is Kettlebell Training so Effective?
Kettlebell training is used by elite athletes, first responders, and people who are interested in getting strong efficiently. Used intelligently, the kettlebell can make you lean and strong in under an hour a week. Some will say that the kettlebell is only a tool, and they would be correct, however, it is a tool that possesses several distinct advantages over some other popular implements.
When you hold the kettlebell by the handle, it possesses an offset centre of gravity that can do good things for you: when you press weight overhead, it allows you to maintain a healthy shoulder position where the weight stays close to you and the joint is allowed to rotate naturally; when you squat, the bell teaches you to maintain your core musculature; and when you use the bell in a locked out, static position overhead, the weight of the bell is constantly helping to reinforce the connection of your arm to the rest of your body via the use of one of your bodies primary stabilisers, the lats. Crucially, the kettlebell allows you to move in a way that suits your body, whereas some other tools will force your body to conform to them.
It is also the offset centre of gravity that allows us to generate thousands of kilos of force in a matter of minutes. The shape of the bell allows us to create a pendulum that allows safe and powerful movements using the swing, which, when taught the way we teach it, has the support of world-leading spine biomechanist, Stuart McGill, as one of the optimal ways to strengthen your lower back. In other words, you can generate an insane muscular and energy demand in a way that supports your health and longevity.

Are Group Exercise Classes for me?
Did you know you’re 5 times more likely to achieve your goals when you train in a group of likeminded people? That’s a huge jump for anyone when it comes to getting stronger reaching their strength goals. Our group exercise classes are specifically designed for all levels of fitness. The class program generally runs from 4-6 weeks and allows our members to treat it like their own personalised strength program. As a local East Brisbane gym, we don’t cram in 30, 40, 50 members into a class and they are capped at 20 to ensure you get the most of your kettlebell workout and to keep the quality of instruction from our coaches high.
Most of our members find us through a friend or family member and they’re reluctant to come along because the word ‘gym’ hasn’t really built up a positive name for itself. The best feedback we have gotten over and over again is that QLD Kettlebells is the ‘anti-gym’. It’s a place unlike any other fitness facility because our members are from such a diverse mix of backgrounds with one common goal; to move better and to feel better.

We’re an East Brisbane Gym that offers a casual atmosphere where you’ll get endless support, great company, coffee, and bad jokes. Our coaches are all Strongfirst certified and believe in high-quality movement and technique because after all, nobody cares how many crappy reps you can do. We’ve been around for 10 years now, and we’re glad to call East Brisbane home. The community that we’ve grown is a big part of why we do what we do; Our biggest focus is on helping the people who walk through our doors live their healthiest, fullest lives by getting stronger so that it makes life easier outside the gym.
