Our Gym is Boring…

QKB is a boring gym. We don’t have screens showing the top hits, we don’t care about entertaining our clients, we have the same program for 4-6 weeks at a time (which everyone knows is coming), and we typically use pretty similar movements each week and during most programs.

Alongside that, I’m not that pretty, I’m not that motivating, and I don’t go out of my way to raise the energy of the place in any way. I expect my clients to take responsibility for their own training and results. Our training methods are old. Pretty much everything we do is based on old research, and using age old methods.

To top all of this off, our programming hardly ever leaves people destroyed at the end of the session or feeling like they have ‘earned their calories’ or are crushing their way to a new bikini body…

So why on earth do our clients love it so much?

Here are a few reasons…

  1. We promote a connection between body and brain - We don’t have screens around the place because we want our clients to start to feel what’s going on in their bodies, to understand how things work, and to move mindfully. This is also why we practise movements for extended periods, using structured programs and sessions with the goal of improving movement quality instead of chasing fatigue.

  2. We prioritise the long-term over the short term with programs that allow us to set a road map from A - B. It’s not about flogging a client so that they feel like they’ve gotten their money’s worth. It’s about people getting consistent improvements in their strength, health and quality of life. It’s about client ownership that will set them up to have wonderful outcomes long after they start training with us, whether they are with us still or whether they have long since moved on.

  3. It’s not about me - We have a community. People come along to learn from and with each other, to share their joys and sometimes their frustrations, to be a part of each other’s world. My clients enjoy learning from Matt, Nicci, Barna, Rach, and Rex, and for most of them, it is their interpersonal relationships that make the gym attractive.

Our clients love our gym because it has a solid, dependable philosophy that undergirds long term health, both physically and mentally. They love that they feel what's going on in their bodies; that they are stronger every year and able to keep up with whoever they want to; and they love it because they know there are a bunch of people in their corner. We think our boring gym is the best.
